laura garcia cannon we begin with breaking news out of pleasant hill. take a look at this house fire from overnight. it happened around 2:30 on dove court just west of interstate 680 near gregory lane. you can see the flames just shooting through the roof there. then, they quickly spread to this white mercedes parked in the driveway. pg&e says it caused power lines to come down. we are told everyone in the house made it out safely. no firefighters were hurt. crews have the fire put out at this point. they say they are going to stay at the scene in case there are any flareups an update to a developing story. b.a.r.t. trains are running. both sides will be back at it starting at 10:00 this morning. mixed news. >> good morning to you, jon. another late night for both sides. they finally broke off talks for the night about 1:00 this morning where they meet at the caltrans building in downtown oakland. trains are rolling. that's good news. i had a chance to talk with commuters. when i asked them how they were doing, i'm getting a deep sigh and an eye roll. they tell me it feels like the new normal to be held in limbo. they walked out as talks ended for the night. no one is saying much. there is still a gag order in place. >> a federal meet yea tore is on board to keep both sides talking. he is saying he sees progress. the fourth late night of an

essential strike. i spoke with one commuter who says, she starts every day wondering. >> it is just like not knowing, just leaving me like if i wake up, i don't know how i'm going to get to work. i just hope they figure this out. it is like, how many days do you guys have, you know. >> the two sides are in a dispute over pay and contributions over benefits. at this point, it is unclear if there would be another deadline set. the language seems to have toned down. christie smith, "today in the bay." >> as we said, talks are ongoing. we see an entire page devoted to strike resources. go to nbcbayarea woin come.

there you will see a map from transit agencies across the bay area. >> a bay area father is asking for your help to find his two missing daughters last seen sunday night at a church event in san jose. "today in the bay's" chase cain is live at valley county high school. >> reporter: good morning. a very scary morning for the family and friends for these two girls. it has been about 2 1/2 days since anyone has seen them for sure. the most important thing is to take a look at these two girls this is 16-year-old madeline and 13-year-old emily doorchet. both of them were at a church event at delmar high school sunday night. it was the last time they were seen, around 7:30 on the quad at delmar high school. no one seems to know. their father says that the girls

have never run away before. of course, that's a possibility. it is a possibility that someone may have taken these two girls. a facebook page has been set up with their pictures. that's been shared all around the bay area up to sacramento, fresno. people on alert looking for the girls. every hour, it is difficult for the father. >> we are going on 72 hours and i'm beside myself. i don't know where they are. we have an unconfirmed report that maybe they were cited at the caltrans station in palo alto. somebody send some information. we don't know. >> reporter: they don't know. that's why this is so scary. everyone hopes that these girls are somewhere safe and they can come home as soon as possible. those words were from last night. that unconfirmed is from

yesterday morning. no word on any sightings of the two gills. san jose police are aware. other police agencies here in the south bay being made aware of these two girls. the father, friends, everyone, just asking if you do see them, if you know where they are, please call your local police. chase cain, "today in the bay." the grieving family of the woman whose body was found in the state hospital. they are calling for a brand new state law. it took more than two weeks to find her body a floor away from the hospital room. they think if there were cameras installed at all entrances and exits, they would have known she never left the building. they are now asking for legislation to require hospitals to install those cameras. the city currently conducting an independent review to try and figure out how spaulding's body was unnoticed for so long. because the investigation is

ongoing, the family has yet to receive spaulding's body and at this point cannot plan a memorial service. in response, san francisco general changing its procedures. the san francisco examiner reporting the hospital will now check the fire stairwell daily. in addition, security staff must check the stairwell any time an alarm is triggered and then deactivate the alarm. the doors spaulding used to get into the stairwell had an alarm that deactivated when the door eventually closed which may be why it took so long to find her body. get ready for the warmest day this week. >> one last blast. >> how warm is it going to get throughout the bay area? close to 90, which is highly unusual. march lar marla, welcome back, jon. it all has to do with our wind directions. winds aren't that strong just yet. like yesterday, they will

continue to increase as we head throughout the day. offshore flow, stronger northerly winds moving from land to sea. we could get close to 90 degrees. i'm forecasting 86 in livermore. fairfield will likely be the warmest. we are still starting out very cold. 37 degrees in novato. 52 degrees in beautiful san jose. temperatures are going to be comfortable yet again today. we are going to hold on to the offshore flow all wait through saturday, as a matter of fact. temperatures dive. 82, bayside. 77 degrees at the coast. one more morning of a near bart strike. we could be in the same boat again tonight until tomorrow. wonder how you are feeling about all that? >> kind of like everybody else, a little tired of the whole repetition in the news. hopefully, we get some more development today but the addition of a transit strike kind of compounds the situation.

we are taking you to the north bay, you guys. we have another issue in the traffic center. it is only one crash in the far north bay. this is on cal stow ga off of the main highway, 12, at 101. a heavier flow of traffic down here. a smooth drive toward san rafael bridge. no problems here. an issue with the signal. watch that. a quick shot outside of the bay bridge toll plaza. no problem. back to you. great story here. a mountain view police dog and drug-sniffing dog who has only been on the force for about a year, getting credit for busting a nationwide pot ring. meet zeus. he recently found 120 pounds of marijuana at a grow house. he also sniffed out $75,000 in cash. the homeowners were allegedly

plans to build the new spaceship are moving forward. there is still one more hurdle to clear before construction can start. bob redell is live in cupertino where leaders will take a final vote next month. good morning. >> reporter: last night, the city of cupertino unanimously approved apple's plan to build their new headquarters at the old h.p. campus in cupertino. two miles away from apple's current location. the rules require the city council meet one more time to give, quote, final approval. that vote scheduled for november 15th. everyone expects it to pass. which means apple could begin construction of a headquarters that would look like none other ever built in silicon valley. you are looking at renderings of a 2.8 million foot office space encased in a four-story ring of glass and steel that looks a lot like a spaceship. it would be home to more than 14,000 employees. some citizens expressed concern

about the impact it would have on traffic. many were very supportive believing apple's unique design could become an iconic landmark in the valley. >> what they are bringing for the future of cupertino, i think particularly for our young people, the brightest minds in the world, people from all around the country and the world to share their belief, to share their eye deals and to encourage and enhance our community. >> they say there is not going to be a significant increase. there are only 4,000 employees working in that area now. it is going to go up to 12,000. pruner is closing do you know. i can't see why there is not going to be an impact on that street. i'm concerned. >> reporter: to help listen the impact on traffic, more than 14,000 commuting, apple says it

will commit money to improve the rhodes around the proposed campus and persuading more employees to use mass transit or company shuttle buses. assuming final approval, the new headquarters could be completed in 2016. reporting live, bob redell, "today" at the bay. thank you very much. 5:15 right now. twitter says it is losing money. it made that announcement as part of an amended paperwork leading up to its all-important i.p.o. scott mcgrew, we now know twitter will trade on the new york stock exchange. >> that continues to hurt the nasdaq. that used to be home of pretty much every stock. now, we see linked in and pandora and a cloud company called viva will start trading on the new york stock exchange. as far as twitter's financials,

it is not a profitable company. it has lost even more money than we first thought. in fact, twitter says it lost $64 million just since september 1st. well, another day, another moment that much closer to default on the full faith and credit of the united states. the stock market seems to should go right along. bertha coombs, live at cnbc headquarters. good morning. good morning. you can say to keep calm and wall street investors are very closely watching the situation. warren buffett telling cnbc to not raise the debt ceiling is a hint for using political weapons of mass destruction. they are hoping for some sort of 11th hour deal that the senate will lead the way and avoid andy fault. you can see what happens when that hope falls. stocks falling sharply on tuesday after two separate plans

in the house failed. fitch took the u.s. credit rating on review for possible down grade. it is important to know the governmentoesn't run out of money tomorrow if congress fails to act. however, we technically have been in default. the treasury has been doing a lot of different things since last may. they have several bills to pay over the next couple of weeks, including a massive $57 billion payment for social security and other social programs that's due on november 1st. now, you'll see the dow starting at 15,168 after falling 133 points after the bad news in the afternoon. the nasdaq starts at 37,094 after slipping 21. the clock is ticking. we will be watching washington very, very closely. back to you. >> thank you very much. >> jon and marla, i told you about a couple of young entrepreneurs. they started a company called your mechanic. they send a mechanic to your house. if you need oil change, they come to you. you leave your car in your own

we do not want a lemon in the weather department. we have a great-looking forecast for today. we are looking good all the way through saturday. the weather we've been enjoying, clear skies at the coast. that will be the case for today and tomorrow. today is going to be the warmest. when we start to drop off for the next couple of days, it won't be by much. thanks for waking up with us even on a wednesday. we want to get you over the hump. temperatures are going to be good for your outdoor plans before it starts to get too cold as you know getting into november and december. coldest months across the bay area, two of the coldest months. as we head throughout the day, it is going to be higher than average by about 5-8 degrees. we usually see the upper 70s inland. 86 degrees in places like livermore. temperatures above average all the way through saturday with those dry north winds, low humidity as a result. a clear coastline, hazy sunshine inland. kind of a milky sky. happy to report, good to moderate air quality. our air quality is not suffering

under this offshore flow. 85 degrees in livermore for today. temperatures are going to be pretty mild up at fairfield. it will be pretty warm up there. 81 degrees for concord, 82 here in san jose is a warm day. we hold on to the warmth and clarity through saturday. it is a big weekend around here. the half moon bay pumpkin festival. want to show you the difference between saturday and sunday. 71 degrees, half moon bay. come sunday when those low clouds return, we see more of an onshore flow. 65 degrees under an overcast sky. you want to keep that in mind if you are looking for sunshine and warmth. saturday is your day to get out there. temperatures are going to stay warm through the weekend. we are talking about the upper 70s sunday, monday, and tuesday. temps will tumble. we're going to see above average numbers. look at these numbers aum the way through saturday. how are we doing on the drive? >> not so bad. i do like those temperatures. i like these speeds as well throughout san jose. you are pretty much at the speed limit. 280 at 880.

take over moffett field and be responsible for restoring hangar one. today is the last day groups can submit bids tik ovo take over t 1,000 acre airfield. among those interested, google and a pair of groups working on ventures into the private space industry. nasa expected to decide who will take over moffett sometime in december. the winner will control that airfield, three hangars and a golf course. they will also have to pay about $30 million to restore the hangar 1. the rock 'n roll hall of fame nominations are now out. we will tell you which artist with south bay ties just received her very first nomination. >> it's a great list.

2:30 on dove court. that's just west of interstate 680 near gregory lane. you can see the flames blazing hot. they actually spread to a white mercedes you can see right there parked outside of the driveway. pg&e says it caused some power lines to come down. the good news is, we're being told, everybody in the house did make it out safely. no firefighters were hurt at this point. still, no official cause of the fire. they are continuing to work on that while crews have put out most of the flames. they will stay on that scene to make sure there are no flareups. 5:31. an update to a developing story. b.a.r.t. trains are running. there is still no deal between b.a.r.t. and its union. talks continue. both sides will be back after 10:00 this morning. christie smith is live at the b.a.r.t. station.

they are upset and frustrated. it runs the whole gamut. >> reporter: good morning to you. you said it. this is certainly something we have heard before. b.a.r.t. trains are rolling. i heard it again. talks will continue today. the commuters we are speaking with this morning have gone from frustrated to just plane tired of the whole thing. we talked about a couple of them this morning. labor negotiations ended just before 1:00 in the morning with b.a.r.t.'s g.m. leaving the caltrans building in downtown oakland where a federal mediator has been helping both sides to stay at the table. a strike threat averted again. there is a gag order in place. that means there aren't many details coming out about exactly where they stand. that mediator says there is progress. b.a.r.t. last considering a counter proposal from its unions after giving them a best, last and final offer. what's happening is that a strike called off yet again. commuters saying they are having

to change their sleep patterns to figure out how to get to work. >> what has this done to you? >> i am tired. that's all i can say. i don't do well tired. i'm in school. so, long hours. >> can you believe that these talks are still going on like that? >> it has been a long time. you have some divorces that are over quicker than this whole strike thing going on. >> i never thought of it that way. >> so it is ridiculous. they need to get it together asap. >> reporter: monday into tuesday, talks ran for 17 hours yesterday. there is a lot of progress but still a lot to be worked out. i wanted to mention for a lot of people, it seems like they are just so frustrated that they have looked for other options, maybe stayed home and maybe

morning. more than 1600 union members want higher wages and better health benefits. they serve more than 170,000 riders daily. >> a father in san jose now bleeding for your help as he searches for his two missing daughters, last seen sunday night at a local church event. "today in the bay's" chase cain is live at the valley christian high school where those sisters attend class. good morning, chase. >> reporter: well, good morning, jon. a pretty sad, a pretty scary morning for family and friends of these two teenage girls. they were reported missing to san jose police sunday night. it has now been about 2 1/2 days. no one has confirmed that they have seen these girls anywhere. of course, there is a lot of worry here in san jose. i want you to take a look at a picture. 16-year-old madeline, 13-year-old emily dorsich. they were last seen sunday night at delmar high school. since then, no word from them.

their father says that maybe they were spotted yesterday morning at a caltrans station. he has taken to facebook and put together a page with lolts of pictures of the two, spread throughout the bay area, sacramento and fresno. if anyone has seen these girls, if you know where they are, every hour that goes by is incredibly difficult for their father. >> we need to get the word out to as many people as we can. my children have been missing. this is hard. this is the hardest thing i have ever had to do. i don't know where they are. i want to find them. >> it is difficult to imagine how that father is feeling. there are so many questions. no amber alert has been issued. police say they don't know what that would be for.

no one saw the girls being taken. we are told the school has been made aware of this. classes are set to start in about an hour and a half or so. we'll be hearing from students and classmates as they come to school this morning. to are now, the family is asking if you have seen these two girls or if you do see them at some point, to please call your local police. that's the latest live here in san jose, chase cain, "today in the bay." it is 5:37. pg&e continues testing their natural gas pipelines. they are planning on venting a section at estates and glenview drive. a location just a block from the epicenter of the deadly 2010 gas explosion. homeowners nearby may be able to smell natural gas during the venting. pg&e says it is not harmful. it will dissipate into the air. testing will be done throughout the day. >> i keep checking my counter on my phone.

livermore. 52, san jose. 44 degrees this morning in gilroy. so we'll take you through the hour by hour changes and stop the clock on your futurecast. at lunchtime, temperatures in the mid-70s. livermore, 75. 77 here in san jose. we'll round out the day in the upper 70s in san francisco. 77 degrees there. the average high is about 70. we're getting much warm are than average right along the east shore as well as the coast. 82%, jose, 86, livermore, 80 degrees straight up in oakland. here is mike inouye. we are looking at the bay bridge toll plaza. the cash lanes are showing a little backup. the b.a.r.t. trains are running. all of the bay area bridges scattered. they are not extending them. the map will show you no problem throughout the area on the approach coming out of the caldecott tunnel. a smooth drive. the north bay shows a smooth drive. a crash south 101 at roanoke

park. a quick look toward the south bay. 880 shows a smooth flow. we have new details on the man arrested in connection with two dry ice bombs out at lax. police say the 28-year-old is a baggage handler at the airport. he got the dry ice from an airplane and then made several bombs, two of which exploded at the airport earlier this week. nobody was hurt in either explosion. he has been booked for possession of a destructive device near an aircraft and is being held on $1 million bail > 5:40 now. the clock is ticking on capitol hill. we'll get you an update on sharks defenseman and dan boyle and his condition after this

>> time is running out. in almost 15 hours, america will hit the debt ceiling and a default will likely follow. tracie potts is live in capitol hill. lawmakers are scrambling to put together a last-minute deal. does it look like it, tracey? >> reporter: it looks like there is scrambling but we don't know if it is going to prevent a default. tonight is the deadline. it won't happen right away. if we don't have money to pay the bills coming in starting next week. lawmakers here in the senate think they have something going that will prevent that from happening. will conservatives in the house go along. a few minutes ago, i got this update from the white house. they seemed very positive the

senate may be able to do something. the tea party conservatives in the house who have rejected what's come out so far, because they think we need to focus on health care. if we're able to prevent this deadline, it puts speaker boehner in a difficult position. marla? >> we'll see. thank you. mountainview is feeling good celebrating its new adventure with tech giant, samsung. construction will start on a 380,000 square foot office campus. this is just south of moffett field. they say the brand new building will be some of the greenest in the entire country. construction expected to be done by the end of next year. apple, one step closer this

morning. last night, the cupertino city council giving the company that green light to move forward with the company to build a brand new headquarters. >> reporter: it is looking more and more likely that one of the most unusual corporate headquarters ever will be built behind these gates here in cupertino. last night, the city council and mayor unanimously approved apple's plans to build the space shift headquarters on the site of the h.p. campus. apple will begin to begin construction of the four-story ring of glass and steel, a headquarters that would encompass 2.8 million feet of square office feet and accommodate 14,000 employees. that number right there raised

concerns among some residents because of the impact on traffic. they said they would pay to approve the roads around campus. most of the other people expressed support and even enthusiasm for the new headquarters. >> i was recently in australia. i met a teenager who said he would like to come and visit california and go to the tourist top spots of san francisco and cupertino. i think that the apple campus will provide interest an tourism within silicon valley. the headquarters could be complete in 2016. it is only a couple of miles away. the city and apple both have plans to discuss the new plans for the headquarters here. a little bit later this morning at a news conference around

10:00. reporting live in cupertino, bob redell. meteorologist, christina loren, with a fabulous forecast. 5:47. good morning to you. what a beautiful day. we have more things we could talk about. that is your weather forecast. it is much warmer than average later on today. i do want to point out, we are starting out right about at average. temperatures are typically this cold as we have those shorter days this time of year. 56, san francisco. temperatures going to keep dropping off as we head throughout the next couple of hours. we are looking at high pressure firmly in control of our weather pattern. that's going to drive the winds offshore. very low humidity levels.
